From Institutional Risk to Personal Ownership
I’m Hayden, an Austin-based Commercial Loan Underwriter. In my day job, I assess risk for large-scale commercial transactions. I created this site to apply those same institutional-grade risk principles to personal finance, helping you move from debt to true ownership. I want everyone to get as close as possible to a risk free personal finance situation. In addition to my career, I also hold a degree in Economics from the University of Michigan with a focus in labor economics.
My background is unique in the personal finance space. After starting in commercial mortgages, I joined my company as Employee #6. This gave me the opportunity to build our risk department from scratch. I created many of the safety protocols and personally oversaw over $250 million in originations while maintaining industry-leading risk-adjusted returns.
I treat my household finances with the same rigor. Because of this I have been 100% debt-free since shortly after college and consistently save over 50% of my income. By focusing on growth and risk management, I built personal income streams covering my modest life’s expenses within only 4 years of entering the workforce and am attempting to create a risk free personal finance situation for myself.

On this site, I deconstruct the strategies I use to vet commercial deals and apply them to household finance. You won’t find get-rich-quick schemes here. You will find a blueprint for building a fortress balance sheet, acquiring cash-flowing assets, and thinking like an owner rather than a consumer.
I have written about my personal investing history where I dive deeply into my favorite strategy for generating income. I will also write about my journey building my web app with minimal coding experience and scaling that into an income stream.
